Dr. Arundhati Jagadish is a conservation social scientist committed to developing integrative and inclusive solutions to conservation and development challenges. She has over a decade of experience researching and working on social and ecological issues. Her research focuses broadly on the relationship between societies and their environments, particularly, people’s engagement with conservation initiatives and the scalability and effectiveness thereof. Her current research examines the social factors that influence the spatio-temporal patterns in the adoption of conservation and restoration initiatives, drawing on theories of scaling, social networks, and cognitive anthropological approaches to decision-making. Her work helps identify how such initiatives can be designed to engage various actors effectively and the circumstances under which these initiatives scale. Her past work has taken her to explore the seascapes of western and eastern coasts of India, Fiji, and Madagascar, and the forest landscapes of the middle Himalayas in India and Guyana. She holds a PhD in Forestry and Natural Resources from the University of Georgia, USA, and a Master’s in Environmental Studies from The Environmental Research Institute, India.
